Basics: Speedy Peanut butter and Jelly

Project of the day: Sandwiches for six

Siblings #3-7 and Daddy are going to day camp at church this week.
This means packing six lunches in the morning, which is not actually as daunting of a task as it sounds. I thought i’d take the opportunity to share my foolproof, quick, one-knife PB&J method.

These are the classic grape jelly and smooth peanut butter, but by all means be creative! My personal favorite is rasberry jam with crunchy peanut butter, but try blueberry preserves, apple butter, your grandma’s marmalade, cashew butter, adding finely chopped pecans, whatever! Toast your bread, or put it on a bagel, cinnamon swirl bread, english muffin, shortbread cookies, cut a donut in half…

Be funky! Be classy! Just follow the basic recipe of fruit and nut on baked thing and you can’t go wrong!

Speedy Peanut butter and Jelly method

First, make them all in parallel, not one at a time.

Lay out your bread in pairs

Jelly goes first

Clean the knife on the other slice of bread.

Then peanut butter

Flip one slice onto the other.

Scrape off any extra peanut butter on the edge of the jar, wipe it with a paper towel if you need, and cut.

The most elegant method of sandwich identification is by cut. Thats how daddy always did it when we were little, before brother # 5: mine in two triangles, sister #2 in two rectangles, brother #3 in four triangles, and brother #4 in four squares.

But a sharpie and a ziplock baggie works fine.
 Bag the lower half of the sandwich first, followed by the top.

Or leave unbagged for immediate consumption.
